Body in space

These two explorations have were created with explorations I did at the Auckland Starfish store.

I wanted to go into the shop and explore the different bodily interactions, to take into account for my design and how I can design for these interactions.

As I have explored previously I separated the body in the three parts and focused on 'recording' these interactions with the retail space, how they mapped the space, the movements that took place, the engagement with product, garments and materiality and how they negotiate the space.

Attaching a camera to my foot gave an interesting perspective. I was interested in how I 'mapped' the space. What I found particularly interesting about this was the time in how I would take a few fast steps then slow to maybe look at something. In general I took slower steps to negotiate the space than I would if I was walking outside along the street for example.

Attaching the camera to my hand focused on the movements particulary when I would physically engage with product - mainly the garments as I felt there materiality. I lifted the coat hangers to get a full view of these. These movements mapped the space in a different way than my feet/legs did. My feet legs did a more repetitive movement where as the movements of my arms varied.

The second video has been overlayed with one of my visual illustrations as I try to develop these videos to express the ideas clearly. I wanted to express the thought processes as I 'converse' with the product - in portraying my concept conversing with space, people and objects.
