This video is exploring the body 'conversing' with the space.
I have filmed these clips at Starfish (in Auckland) to explore the different bodily interactions engaged as I wander around the store and engage with the products.
As I have been exploring in my studio work I have looked at the body as three sections and therefore have filmed three segments focusing on how the body engages with space.
The body is having a conversation with the space.
I am engaged in personal conversation as I navigate the space and engage with the products and garments.
1. My legs/feet
These have a lower view of the shop. They control my movements as I navigate the space, they map spatially how I explore the shop and physically move my body from one place to another.
2. Hands
My hand and arms also map the space as they are my primary tools in gaining hands on experience of product and materiality. I am able to extend my visual interrogation of objects through touching them. I am able to reach out and feel, lift, stroke which gives a further sensory experience. The movements of my arms map the space.
3. Sight
This is the primary way I engage with the space, as I see things I think, I make decisions and choices, and create a dialogue between myself and the space. What I view is creating this dialogue.
