“Designers
will focus on systems not objects, embrace complexity, and move from form
giving to conversation managing”
-
Hugh Dubberly
We
are constantly ‘conversing’. Engaged in conversation with people, objects and
space. A conversation occurs between two, a space is physically generated,
facilitating a dialogue of exchanging thoughts.
I
have particularly designed for the bodily conversation, as the body acts as an
extension of thought. I have explored the way the body converses with space,
with people, and with objects. I have designed to frame and isolate this bodily
conversation to establish a more conscious engagement with not only the space
and product, but with the Starfish brand and philosophies.
Exploring
conversation in a more ‘subconscious’ form, how we engage with space and
objects, exposes how the body expresses thought processes in the way it maps
and negotiates a space. I have designed for a successful facilitation for
engagements and interaction creating an open dialogue between the consumer, the
space and the product, in particular the garments.
We
are constantly subconsciously conversing with every space we enter. The space
has been designed to frame the ‘space between two’ in expressing the Starfish
ethos of Planet, People, Profit, all equally valued, as contrasted spaces.
People are not expressed as a physical space but merely as the ‘space between’.
Consumers engage, move and map this space, representation of the ones with the
power of choice to support a more sustainable way of life.
Establishing
a more conscious bodily engagement through conversing with space and product creates
a retail experience enhancing awareness, creating greater impact and more
likely to go beyond the storefront encouraging the support of the Starfish
brand and of a greener lifestyle.
